Shannon Abac is a San Francisco-based visual artist with a strong commitment to ceramics. She was born and raised on the westside of Maui, Hawaii and currently lives in the foggy avenues of San Francisco’s Sunset District. Shannon received her Master of Fine Arts degree from San Francisco State University in 2016 and her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2007.
Shannon’s work is guided by her curiosity and fascination with raw materials. Her art practice involves endless experimentation in an attempt to find balance between chaos and control. Resistance is often met when working with unstable or temperamental materials but she enjoys encountering challenges while attempting to control the uncontrollable. Shannon was awarded the Murphy and Cadogan Contemporary Art Award by the San Francisco Foundation in 2014, exhibited in Root Division's Introductions 2016, and was a 2016-2017 Headlands Center for the Arts Graduate Fellow. Shannon is currently teaching ceramics in the SF Bay Area. |
